Smoothies
Drinking a smoothie is quite refreshing, especially in the morning. Smoothies are blended fruit, vegetables, nuts, milks, waters and whatever else you can devise. They will provide the boost of energy needed to start your day.
I recommend fresh greens, such as kale or chard, whenever possible. There is nothing like chlorophyll that comes from alive, vibrant plants. Other than a slight nutritional sacrifice, frozen fruit is okay, berries especially since they have a very short seasonal availability. I would avoid using processed juices. The pasteurization destroys the natural enzymes in the fruit which aids in digestion and metabolism, causing the sugar to reach the bloodstream much quicker.
In a high speed blender, like a Vita-mix or Nutribullet, mix all the selected ingredients together. Follow guidelines for water and fruit levels to ensure consistency every time.
Make sure you have enough water to maintain a nice consistency. Taste test before serving. Add a tbsp of lemon juice if the greens tend to be a little overpowering. Smoothies are great to experiment with.
I have provided five recipes to help you get started.
